Nostalgic Exploration in Anju Ancient Town

What makes up an ancient town? Not only the old and dilapidated buildings But also the feeling of nostalgia and familiarity Anju ancient town, with its name meaning peaceful life, is indeed a town that enables people here to lead a harmonious and peaceful life.


Located in Tongliang County, Chongqing, the Anju Ancient Town of 4A scenic spot is the fourth biggest ancient town in China. It is blessed by both rivers and mountains, with Qiongjiang River and Fujiang River flowing through the town and Bolun Mountain lying at the back. Most of the buildings in the town were built in 1500 years ago, giving Anju Ancient Town cultural and historical elements.



Buildings in the ancient town are all unique and distinctive and sceneries here are tranquil and peaceful, and architectures in Chinese style are standing row by row. Wandering along those buildings, you might think you are really stepping into old times in some TV series, when men were forging iron or selling antiques and women doing their sewing works at the thresholds.

The famous attractions are the “Eight spots of Anju Acient Town” and “Nine Palaces and Eight Temples”.



“Bolun Mountain Holding the Moon”

As the most famous one of the“Eight spots of Anju Acient Town”, the spot of “Bolun Mountain Holding the Moon” refers that a stone-carved Buddha in the sitting Bolun Mountain, and when it is mid-autumn that the moon is in a circular shape, it seems like that the Buddha is holding the round moon.



“Nine Palaces and Eight Temples”

Blessed by Buddha, the town has once long being so prosperous feom Tang Dynastiy that a great deal of palaces was built, among which nine palaces are well-preserved till today. The sight of these palaces always arouses one’s nostalgia to the old times, with the sound of bell ringing and smoke rising from the distance.



Hydroelectric Power Plant

On the other side of the town, there is a large-scale hydroelectric power plant built in 1992, which has drove the economy of Tongliang and lightened up the whole Anju town. Due to its advantaged location of the juncture of the Fujiang River and Qiongjiang River, the plant has gradually become a scenic spot, especially when in the Dragon Boat Festival that is serves as the starting places for the dragon boat race.
