Foreign Street

Foreign Street
  • Amusement Park
  • Food & Delights

Before liberation, Chongqing was the war-time capital of KMT (the Kuomintang). It was hard for foreigners to find comfortable and safe accommodation on the peninsular so many chose to live in the area that eventually became known as foreigner Street.

Now, a Chinese “Western style” Amusement Park with many interesting and some bizarre attractions has been built. It attracts visitors from home and aboard. Unique Chinese food like Chen MaHua from Ciqikou, Xinjiang big kebabs, stinky tofu and countrywide pastries, authentic Chongqing hot pot, griddle restaurants, grilled fish restaurants, bean curd rice chophouses as well as noodles, mixian (rice noodles) and hot and sour rice noodles can all be found here.

Some of the buildings in Foreign Street are unique and defy the imagination. Some are built upside down while others are painted with bright-colored graffiti embodying a strong post-modernity style. Even the most ordinary little buildings are trying to depict special details.
